Wisdom Teeth Removal

Safe, Stress-Free Extractions for Teens and Young Adults

At ABC Kids Dental Group, we understand that wisdom teeth removal can feel like a big step — especially for teens and parents alike. That’s why our caring team walks you through every part of the process with clarity, comfort, and compassion.

Wisdom teeth (also called third molars) typically start to emerge between ages 16 and 25. In many cases, they can lead to problems such as:
  • 🦷 Crowding of existing teeth
  • 😖 Jaw pain or swelling
  • 🦠 Gum inflammation or infection
  • 🪨 Impaction (when a tooth is trapped below the gumline)
If any of these issues are detected during your child’s routine visits, we may recommend wisdom tooth extraction to prevent complications and protect their oral health.
Understanding the Procedure: What to Expect

We provide wisdom tooth consultations and removal at all our locations: Granada Hills, Pacoima, Sun Valley, San Fernando, and Reseda, serving teens and young adults from Panorama City, North Hills, Sylmar, Burbank, and surrounding LA communities.

Anesthesia Options Based on Your Needs

Depending on the number and position of the wisdom teeth, we’ll recommend one of the following:

  • 💉 Local Anesthesia – Numbs only the area near the teeth. You stay awake but feel no pain.
  • 😴 IV Sedation – Light sleep-like state with little to no memory of the procedure.
  • 💤 General Anesthesia – Fully asleep; typically used for impacted teeth or multiple removals
Step-by-Step: How Wisdom Teeth Are Removed
Our skilled oral surgeon will:
  • 1️⃣ Make a small incision in the gum (if needed)
  • 2️⃣ Gently remove bone blocking the tooth (if present)
  • 3️⃣ Section the tooth if needed for easy extraction
  • 4️⃣ Remove the tooth and clean the site
  • 5️⃣ Place dissolvable stitches to support healing
  • 6️⃣ Apply gauze to reduce bleeding and aid clotting

The procedure is usually completed in under an hour — especially when done by our experienced surgical team.

Recovery Tips for a Smooth, Comfortable Healing
Healing takes about 7–10 days, with most discomfort peaking in the first 48 hours. To ensure a smooth recovery, follow these tips:
  • 🩸 Bite on Gauze – Change every 30 minutes until bleeding stops
  • 🛏 Stay Elevated – Helps reduce swelling
  • ❄️ Use Ice Packs – Apply 15–20 minutes on, then off, for the first day
  • 😴 Rest Plenty – No sports or heavy activity for 2–3 days
  • 🥣 Eat Soft Foods – Think yogurt, soup, smoothies, mashed potatoes
  • 🚫 Avoid Straws – Can dislodge the clot and cause dry socket
  • 🪥 Keep the Area Clean – Brush gently and rinse with salt water after 24 hours

Our team will send you home with full instructions and be available if you have any concerns.
